WellComm

Identifying early needs

WellComm is a screening tool used in Early Years to identify a child’s speech, language and communication needs.

We use the WellComm toolkit to assess every child’s communication and language skills and provide targeted intervention. We identify specific areas of language for development and use the Big Book of Ideas to provide a variety of activities that support this.

Children will take part in 1:1 sessions and small groups with a trained member of staff and also take this learning into their everyday play.

We use the information from assessment in our daily planning to ensure we target these skills in a wider capacity.

We also share the targets with our families so that children can continue their learning at home. By using WellComm we are able to intervene early and give the best start to communication development in Early Years.
